Help creating a sculpture

Hi friends, please see the attached files capture 1 and capture 2. I have to model this sculpture. Its a flame sculpture 12 feet tall, and made of thin steel wireframe. The sections in between the wire, would be filled with a transperent, champagne colored antique glass.
The challenge here would be to make a flamelike, dna-like curve and then place different shaped(but gradually decreasing in size) glass pieces along the curve. The glass pieces will also have to align with the direction of the curve(flame).
I hope you get the picture. It is not difficult but maybe I need to use a certain command or plugin to do this.
