SketchUp & LayOut for Architecture

Thanks everyone! Nick and I put a ton of work into this book and we think it is really going to help a lot of people make the push to going 100% SketchUp and LayOut. No wonder it took longer than you expected. Just thumbing through my copy--looks super detailed, well laid out, and beautifully done!

Yet another beautiful effort from and for the dedicated users of SketchUp,
so Trimble, how much longer do we have to wait for Layout to actually reach it's
FULL POTENTIAL as a serious option to other CAD packages? As a building designer of 20 yrs
I embraced SketchUp from the start and my workflow relies heavily on 3D in design
development and detailing, but for me Layout is completely unbearable in it's current
form. And I have seriously tried to use it, a Vectorworks subscription is a serious annual affair these days . . just think Trimble, how you could tap into that! -

I'm sure Trimble understands this very well. They know their user base and their price tag and they know where they could head. I think it's a matter of allocating resources.

Got my book (softcover) today. Beautiful printing (nice big fonts), great color. Great job guys!
Have to mention that having the pdf as well allows zooming on the various illustrations. You can't quite read the fine print but you can get a good look at the detail and line work in even the smaller illustrations, using the pdf. Still I knew that I'd enjoy having the book and it makes it more likely that I'll run through some of the tutorials with book in hand--or just take a break from the computer time to time. -

I have to say how impressed I am with the amount of love and attention that has gone into this publication. Excellent workflow and I am seriously excited to implement it into my own practice.
I highly recommend this to anyone sitting on the fence. It already answers many questions on how to think about the SketchUp to LayOut differently than any CAD (or even BIM) system. I believe this has the ability to get traction more and more in architectural design and other disciplines to continue to move away from either an antiquated methodology (CAD) or cumbersome pragmatic system (BIM) and back towards a simpler design process.

Dear Nick,
I am not an architect and so this might be a dumb question, but is your book centred on American standards or would a UK/European architect find this book useful too. If essentially written for the American market, do you plan to publish a companion book that would meet the needs of UK/European architects with respect to standards, symbols etc. People are so busy these days that they want to hit the floor running when trying something new.

BobCertainly. The book is more about the process. Yes it is in American standards, but that really isn't discussed at length. What is discussed is the simple process of model configuration, layout setup and overall concept of producing full CD's with only Sketchup and Layout. The book includes a full sample project in both SU and LO as well as, all the templates I use in both SU and LO.
