SketchUp 2017 Wishlist

For me the most requested features would be Layout-Relevant
- Make it possible to activate / deactivate layers of a scene from within Layout
- Make it possible to hide/unhide geometry in a model-view from within Layout
- (Killer Feature) Make the components of a model browsable from within Layout. Imagine if you could browse your components and you could drag a component onto the Layout-Sheet to generate a "Scene" in which just the component is shown. At the moment I spend so much time simply adding pointless scenes in Sketchup in order to show some detail. This feature alone would blow minds, I feel.
- Multi-Point Dimension Lines (don't know how to phrase this). Like saying: this is 100mm and after 19 and after 482 and after that 19 and after that 25 in one go and all the measures on that dimension line stick together.

What I do is, from Sketchup, save a bunch of components to a folder, create a new sketchup model and import all of those components and create scenes for those from there.
If you have a template you can set things up in a breeze, with the added advantage that you can create sections and details, further develop the model and reload it back in your sketchup model.

H JQL,
great drawing. Something along the line of what I am doing myself. We have a nifty little company called Kiebitzberg ( http://www.kiebitzberg.de ) and do a lot of interior design With that kind of detailing necessary. I often work on projects that contain 12 or more rooms in one file as they are all connected and I need to present the type of details you are showing in your example for a whole bunch of furniture AS WE DEVELOP it. Meaning, there is the initial draft than we present it to the customer, make changes to the model, update the Layout file, etc. So exporting the Components is only so and so great because I'd constantly would need to reexport in order to get the Layout File updated. So far the best way I found was to create ALOT of Scenes in which only the relevant componant is shown but it is quite a mind-numbing task considering how fluid and logical Sketchup is.
So - I stand by my whishes!
Napper.

Would be nice to see some feature from this addon in skp2017 https://gumroad.com/l/GroupPro/freeVersion
moste:
".. 'MaxDepth' parameter for 'MakingUnique' groups- Maximum depth for which unique groups will be created. 0-inifinite depth, default=1 (use F6 panel to change maxDepth).." -
lets all push to import PDF's into layout and be able to edit them thats not asking too much is it
-
Hello.
Whish from me : to be able typing formulas in the input bar.
-
-Integrate layers and outliner as one
-In windows version the ability to import pdf's
-In layout dual dimensioning (metric/imperial) and the ability to choose which is primary and which is secondary
-Solid section should be native to sketchup and in the context the ability to enable/disable just like the Dibac plugin -

DibacSKALP pluginfor Pro version that is, fixed that for you...

You fixed it wrongly. Dibac plugin does just that too and it's way simpler than Skalp.
It doesn't mean simpler is better, just less complex.
-
Dibac does a whole lot of other things too, SKALP does section cuts and associated hatch/fill (Pattern designer) and quite well if you ask me. How does Dibac's export compare to SKALP's?
-
I use neither. My workflow is too much integrated into SectionCutFace. I need static Sections that don't change until I say so and the recent SectionCutFace improvements simply make it near perfect for my needs.
Some of the extra Skalp features get more and more interesting as time goes by though, so I could try it eventually someday

Ok, once again, almost the same as for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016...
(faster load/save and 64bit has been removed)- import improvements
- Quads
- sub-D modeling (edit: since we now have SUbD and i don't think that Trimble will provide another version, my wish would be to make it possible to let it run faster (much faster) so that it is usable with bigger models. But maybe this is related to the general SU performance issues...)
- better texturing tools
- multicore support (yes, this is the way processors evolve now - since a few years)
- high poly support
- faster ruby script execution! (it's just a joke, that you have to watch a counter when you round some edges, where another apps can do this instantly...)
- faster explode or copy/paste
- disable/configure snapping
- an advanced camera without these unbelievable stupid huge frustums and guide lines (clipping problem?) or simply a camera with numerical input for the target height (or simply the same value as the eye level if a flexible value is too much )
- a usable, more direct or intuitive version of dynamic components with usable stretch and move options like in dynamic blocks in acad for instance (and including options to avoid texture stretching)
- better proxy display modes for referenced objects of external renderers - not only a box
- a camera that can use/display shift parameters of the camera in render plugins
- a function to replace a photo match image with a new one (photoshopped, colour adjusted, etc.) incl. the projected textures or derived materials. Maybe with the option to select if the projected textures/materials should be changed or not.
- an option to disable the rotate handles of components/groups.
and... since this is a wish list (i really don't think this will ever happen): non destructive and parametrical modeling using a modifier stack or node graphs. Maybe we'll see a ruby... this seems to be the only way this program will evolve in the future (as always).
...and yes, a roadmap would be nice
so maybe next year... maybe one or two of them?

The world is 3D, why do you want to divide it into several 2D views?
-
Wouldn't it be nice if section cuts did not affect shadows as an option? That objects cut and made invisible by the section still cast shadows. Often the current result gives strange effects for sections in elevation drawings.
-
a small one...
sometimes it happens that sketchup pops up a info like "offset limited xx blabla" in a small rectangular box.. this box hinders snapping from working and sometimes its cumbersome to get around this ...
maybe this info could be dropped to bottom of screen or move away from the mouse cursor or something like that - or best, its transparent and does not stop snapping from working

I've used sketchup for many years and im still waiting for a way to organize materials.
the company that i work for usually does big buildings, and the number of materials within a scene can get rather large.
It really does become an issue also when you take models from another user that has zero consideration for the amount of materials used.
If we could simply group materials by stone, finish, building, etc it would make it sooooo much easier to navigate through them.PLEAAASEEEEE, add this feature!
or if anyone knows of a plugin let me know -

juju that helps into organizing a library.
maikoo wants to organize materials within a model.
Organizing Materials, Scenes, Components and Layers, all by creating groups and subgroups and in the case of scenes, by also grouping and subgrouping tabs, would be a bless.
Currently we just have Layer's Panel plugin, from Jiminy, that does this to layers. It's a bless but destroyed Jiminy's sanity so he has got free from it.

On previous versions SketchUp didn't force itself to go in front of other open programs. I mean, if I open a large file, it keeps popping up in front of my PDF viewer for example, or in front of another skp file, or whatever I use. It can be really annoying if you want to open 300 mb file, and it takes 10 minutes. You can't do anything else during that time basically. I just want it to load in the back and not force itself while I'm doing other stuff.
