Orienting Textures

When I've got tiles on a roof using the original Sketchup material I can right click and find 'texture' and then 'position'. But with some new wood materials that I added since, the 'texture' line isn't in the right click menu. What's missing here?

You only get that menu item when the selected texture is on a single face.
If the face is curved turn on hidden geometry and right click on one facet of the curve and you will get that option. Rotate that face and sample the texture. Turn off hidden geometry and paint the whole face.
The other possibility is you are outside the group or component context. -
