Is there anyplace I can look to learn how to create good looking water, with waves and stuff? Preferably not involving pushing and pulling on a mesh, which I find great for creating terrain, but not water.

A plug-in like Grow but for water would be nice... The FLOW plug-in! 👍

I use V-ray for render by the way.

A tempest ocean is like "Mountains of waves" ! 😉

So you can use something like "World Machine" : a free version is existing! 👍
You obtain an OBJ file that you can insert inside Sketchup! 😉

Thank you, I actually tried world machine earlier. What about a "bump map" for water? I think I read somewhere that you create realistic water with something called bump map. I haven´t figured out how to use that in Vray but I guess I should ask about that in the Vray section

A Bump Map is a generic word for simulate thickness/shadows in render from infos of a 2D image!
            Like joint between tiles! 😄

How about a randomized flat mesh?

Yes, I´ve tried using using a mesh, but I just found a tutorial for creating water in Vray, thats the kind of photorealism I´m looking for.

                Thanks!
