[Plugin] GKWare Cabinet Maker
-
1 - png file for each parameter. It is already starting to slow down more than I had hoped for.
This in itself will be over 100 graphic files and will take the better part of a week to do. I'm not going any farther at this point.
No English text on the graphic images. Better this way for different languages. Also I will paste these all into the manual. A bit more technical information will be available in the manual.
-
I am now over 100 graphic images for context help. I will try to wrap this up tomorrow and push out another version. I also found and fixed a bug with the applied finished panels.
-
Version 1.0.16 is now available
- Fixed issues with finished panels
- Added 150 + graphics for context sensitive help. Still need more.
-
I've now been asked by a number of people for various types of "handleless cabinet doors" as well as for extruded handles. So it appears this will be on my radar.
I believe the best way to work with these is to add them into a folder called "handle profiles" and then to provide an optional handle texture.
Handless - no handle texture. The handle will become part of the door and take on the door texture.
Extruded - has handle texture. The handle is added as a separate part such as an aluminum extrusion.

Well I'm 70 pages into writing the documentation for cabmaker.
I'll be real happy to get back into programming.-
My next task will be to add inset doors. All you do is set the protrusion in the rules to a negative value which equals the thickness of your doors.
-
Then I'm going to add in face frame construction. I would like a bit of feedback. What I am thinking is to add a frame material to the material tab so we can independently specify thickness. I'm thinking we almost need a "Frame" tab where we can specify the various options. Stile Width, Rail Width, Bottom Rail Width, Stiles between door pairs, Rails between drawers. Double drawers above double doors and Stile overhang.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Version 1.0.17 is now ready for download.
Documentation is finished - 83 pages
Fixed a couple of bugs -
Thanks, Garry...!
I wonder why there's almost no-one posting replies in this thread...?!
Your cabinet maker is a great plugin with lots of options...
Perhaps it's because other users are having their own standards...?? -
Kim
I am getting private replies which I keep private. Perhaps some cabinet makers etc. want to keep their techniques private !!
That's ok with me and I respect it.

Gary here is video of the kitchen I designed for my grandson. On the last wall shown the end cabinet was made by using the Angle cabinet then replacing the blank front with a door and drawer from a base cabinet the width of the blank face.
I have noticed that selecting save for rules and materials seems to make nothing happen. When starting a cabinet the save as results in window to name or select the file but not at the materials or rules tab.
I like the help pictures shown now when working in the forms. Very Helpful.

Looks good.
You can set Materials to "Save" and then go to Rules and set "Save" and then go to Cabinets tab - make some changes and create cabinet.
I'm pretty sure you will find that the rules and materials were saved.
-
I've added handless doors and an optional Overlay Counter.
-
Garry, probably a silly question at this stage but what is the difference CabMakerPro and CabMaker32?
-
CabMaker32 is C++ executable that currently only runs on Windows. It communicates with Sketchup by passing it a file. A small plugin reads the file and renders the complete kitchen. The executable works for shops that are producing a lot of cabinets and don't always need to see them.
CabMaker is a sketchup plugin.
-
One other thing once I saved rules and material then used sav as an named the file I could retreive those settings. However after updating the plugin the materials and rules reverted to the default. The cabinet sizes retained my settings.
Also it would seem to me that when editing a cabinet the materials used should show up on the form. The program must know these to make the proper changes. I would not want to change the design by just editing the width or depth etc.

Keith,
Really - thank you - I do appreciate feedback.
I think I've got a solution. I simply need to store the default settings in the model.
Load the model and read the default setting from the model instead of from the file system. Then each and every project / skp file would have your desired defaults !!

Looks really great, Garry...
One small thing, though...
The way drawers are made in modern kitchen the handless drawer hides the top of the drawer underneath...I've made a very rough model of a cabinet with drawers and another cabinet with doors, using your plugin to show what I mean...
I've coloured the changes I've made in a red colour so you know what to look for...Below is an image of my own kitchen...
Hope you can use this...!?

I've added Inset doors. Set the door protrusion to -19 for a door thickness of 19 and cab maker builds a cabinet with inset doors and drawers. Stretchers can be optionally used between drawers and doors. Vertical Dividers and pullouts are set back by the proper amount.
-
Added the ability to place the cabinet at any height by using the shift key in combination with the left mouse button.

I really would like to know if there are any Mac users running version 1.0.17
I don't have a Mac so debugging a Mac is just a bit tougher. -
Are you able to use what I wrote...?
-
Kim,
I'm still getting my head around all the different styles and approaches. I've also been asked to do C and J channel styles of handles.
I'd like to handle some of the off the shelf hardware. I've put this on the back burner for a week or so while I gather more information.
