So the only thing you've done to this model is add one texture in weeks?

No, the texture has been there from the beginning. I have been running some other tests and it seems that at times I am seeing some performance issues. I drew a simpler model with the same texture and a couple of others to boot at they worked fine. Then I imported another model into that one and the loading operation did not go smoothly. Once the other equipment (model) finally loaded, I could orbit and the textures performed fine.

Seems like I am seeing intermittent performance issues that I was not aware of before. I can perform all functions it just seems like I am seeing some lags that I do not remember seeing before.

Perhaps one of the things I am seeing is that I am trying to incorporate my model into a larger landscape and that may be part of the issue. However, when I go back to the one I created some time before, I am seeing things that I do not recall seeing before with that model.

The wire framing of models during rotation foes back pretty far in Sketchup and is a direct indication of the system not being able to handle the load and making a compensation to help you work more efficiently. There could be several reasons.

          1. too much geometry for the system.
          2. large textures, too large, too many, etc...
          3. system inadequacies.
          4. background programs or processes taking up too much resources.

Have you taken my suggestion and ran the goldilocks examiner? What were the results?

              Yes, here are the results:

there's your issue. that top texture is 2 megs and there are screws at the bottom that are massive. get rid of the top texture or resize it, but I have a feeling you have a bunch of those high poly screws. No. 10 screwhead pan. and you have a duplicate of it as well.

Check for a graphic driver update. Many times nvidia release an update to fix issues caused be windows update.

So far I have found items from the 3d warehouse that are the big culprits. I have one texture though that I cannot find where it is applied in the model. Is there an easy way to find where a particular material is used in your model?

Just find that texture in the library and delete it or replace it.

That was my first thought. I have checked twice and Windows tells me I have the most up-to-date driver for my video card. Given what is going on, I still think that is the route of the problem since this just started in the last couple of days and I remember Windows telling me to not shut down my machine while it did an update.

those little screws are going to be the big issue. kill them or simplify them.

I removed them completely and I deleted the object that caused the texture problem and I am seeing no difference in the performance.

I have one other texture that I cannot find in the model. I have tried eliminating some of the 3d warehouse objects but cannot find the component that contains the next most offensive texture.

Bottom line is that is not having any affect on the performance yet. I am like @Box in thinking it might be a Windows update that has done something to my NVIDIA driver but Windows keeps telling me I have the latest driver for my video card.

I know that this was not happening a couple of days ago and I have not made any updates to the model. My sole focus the past few days has been in learning Lumion and not fooling with the model itself. That is the bottom line of what has me concerned.

I do like using the Goldilocks tool though and identifying "offenders". I would like to find the object that has that darn texture I have never heard of before.

BTW: I really appreciate the feedback and assistance though. That is one of the things I love about this forum and why I monitor it daily (actually multiple times per day) 😄

Go to your material browser and click the home/house icon, then change it to list or thumbnail, whichever is easier to find the texture with. then you should be able to find it, right click on it and delete.

But if you have done no work on the model since that time... I doubt it is a SU issue. I thought you had been doing work on it over the days.

Also... open task manager, look at your processes and see what processes are taking up the most memory. then try to use your model and watch the processes and see which increases in memory use. you can sort them by memory.

Did you purge afterwards? When optimizing a model, use Goldilocks and then purge, then run goldilocks again to make sure the stuff is gone.

have a look at the model attributes with Enroth's 'Attribute Inspector'...

Lumion may have added information about your materials that remain in the file, even if your remove the material...

I know some render packages can bloat a file that way...

Since when does SU use any GPU? I thought it was strictly CPU driven.

                                    ...and..

Last night I got to thinking about any other changes I might have made and I remembered that I updated 3 plugins. I use the Sketchucation Tools to update things and I ran the routine that looks at my installed plugins and it updated 3 of them. I remember that there was a popup screen that showed 2 plugin folders. Without thinking I just clicked and let it use the one highlighted.

                                      So, here are my questions:

                                      1. Is it possible that this caused some type of problem? In particular, if the folder the update was loaded to was different than the folder the original version of the plugin was installed in, would that create a conflict that SU could be struggling with?
                                      2. Since I cannot remember which 3 plugins were updated, is there any way to figure this out?
                                      3. Should I uninstall and reinstall each plugin?

While I appreciate the other tips (Goldilocks in particular), I really think it has to be something like this since the performance just changed kind of suddenly and was independent of updates to the model where I have been seeing the problem. Just to verify that, I went back and found a model that has not been updated since October of 2014 and it is doing the same thing. I am also noticing that models (particularly bigger ones) are loading much slower. Something else is definitely going on that was not happening before.

Again, thanks for all the feedback and I certainly welcome any more suggestions. I need to find a resolution to this problem. It is very annoying.

That's a good idea trying other models.

Now what you can do is remove all your plugins or disable them and see if the problem persists, then add them back until you find the culprit.

If you look in the Sketchucation Plugin Store it will show plugins by update. try the last ones first.

Well, I have tried disabling all of my plugins and I still had the same problem. I even tried on a SU 2014 model and got the same results.

One thing I found interesting. I went back in an enabled all of the plugins, restarted SU and then reloaded my model. My first attempts to orbit the model were fine. Then I used the middle mouse wheel to zoom in and out and the delay started happening again.

I am stumped as to what could be causing the delay (and it is not just with textures) in repainting the model when I orbit, pan or zoom.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
