Drop Leaf Table

A model based on a table made in Sweden in the early 1950s. It was designed by Goran Malmvall. I drew this model to use as a subject for a tutorial on drawing angled and tapered mortises.

Nice model, nice render, nice tutorial on the Design.Click.Build blog on finewoodworking.com. I've been wondering what kind of hinges are used on the leaves.

Interesting! I've never seen a table with the drop joints done that way before (as opposed to the usual rule joint). Seems like the hinges would have to be very deeply recessed into the lower surface of the top?

The top surface is only thick at the edges. most of it is half the visible thickness. So normal butt hinges applied to the bottom surface would work just fine. But that requires the notches so the thicker edges of the leaves clear.
It's not as pretty as a rule joint but it is simple. The table was designed for farmhouse/rustic summer cottage type decor. I could see making one out of well-seasoned construction grade lumber or WRC for a porch.
