Editing material in external editor on Mac

When trying to edit material using external editor of any kind I get a "failure to save file" dialogue box from SU
I downloaded a model off the internet to practice some rendering and not sure where to find that material so I can use to make a bump map for texture.
Using Mac 10.7.5 Lion SU 2014 and Twilight render ver 1.

No help on your first issue, except it works OK on my Mac. You know in Twilight you can choose the SU texture to be your bump? But all you can do in the Template Material window is make is stronger,weaker, and/or inverted. Have you tried editing both via the materials window and the contextual menu? Also there are plugins to export materials. Should get that fixed though.

Well I ended up exported XML in Twilight and then altered the material.
