When I use the section plane to slice an object for see-thru it automatically adjusts to a surface, that“s great. But it always covers an entire object for me, that“s great too, but what if I want to shorten a part of it like the width a little bit? I can“t seem to move it around left and right as a whole and neither can I mark a side and drag that left or right.

      Any advice?

A section plane covers the full extent of the context it is in. If it is inside a group it only cuts the group, but in the open it will cut through the whole model.
