Just read a review of the new BMW i8, here, Electric dreamland: Ray Massey test drives the BMW i8 electric hybrid

Power comes from a frugal 1.5 litre, threecylinder, 231 bhp, twin-turbo, petrol engine over the rear axle linked to a 131bhp electric unit over the front axle. It's a 'plug-in' hybrid you can charge at home or at a charging station. It also generates electric power on the move from braking and deceleration.

      Average fuel consumption of 134.5mpg
Goes from rest to 62mph in 4.4 seconds. Top speed limited to 155mph.

I won't mention the bad news .... the price 😉

I just got a Hybrid Altima. Not much in the Hybrid category but saves a little on gas while having good enough power. Not quite 4.4 secs. though! Just seemed like a nice car for the buck. I'd have to save a bit longer for this one

I consider▶ QUANT e-Sportlimousine with nanoFLOWCELL® drive much larger "crack" because it runs on ionized salt water, 62 mph in 2.8s, 350miles or range, 920HP with torque vectoring. BMW is definitely something accessible as opposed to Quant.

I believe it will be a decade or so before the QUANT becomes a reality, sounds too good to be true at the moment. Looks very interesting though, because when it comes down to it, the BMW i8 still uses petrol for the performance and range.

Here is the science behind the power delivery:
