Problem with Curviloft - Skin Contours Function
-
Hi everyone
Firstly, apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong sub forum, though I think I've got it right.
I'm having an issue with curviloft on SU 2014 - specifically, the skin contours function. I am currently trying to model a boat hull made up of several individual boards, and as such I have been drawing the contours of the edges of those boards before then 'filling in' using the skin contour function in curviloft. This has, for the most part, worked totally fine. However, there are several instances, seemingly at random (I am unable to deduce any pattern) whereby selecting a series of lines which are (I've checked) completely contiguous and form a complete loop, and then clicking 'skin contours' produces a view whereby the curviloft toolbar is visible, but nothing whatsoever shows up in the preview view, and when I hit enter or click the 'tick' mark, no geometry is formed either. Interestingly, once this has happened once, any successive attempt to do so produces exactly the same thing except that the curviloft toolbar is no longer visible at any stage. I often also get a progress bar in the middle of my screen that is stuck on 0%, and which can be got rid of by switching to any other tool on the main toolbar.
Thus far I've got round the issue by dividing the contours to be skinned up into two discrete sections, and this seems to work and I can get geometry out of it. This approach has fallen over in the latest case though, because in this case I am attempting to skin a series of contours which are all curves, rather than a couple of them being straight lines, as has previously been the case. This means that I am unable to effectively 'divide up' the contours I want to skin in such a manner that the two discrete sections, when combined, produce the whole that I want.
Any help would be very much appreciated. As I say, it appears that this problem is occurring pretty much at random.

Douglas, I don't have an answer for you just letting you know your not alone. I've had the same issue with Curviloft & SU8. In my case I think it was operator error in selecting the various paths. To get my toolbars back I have to quit SU and start over. In watching the video tutorials again seems there is some logic in the order you select stuff. No problems after I started to pay better attention to what I'm doing. chuck.
