Scheduling Areas

Hi All,
In the preliminary phases of a project I use sketchup in a 2D format quite extensively to get planning issues and areas right and signed off by my client before I get into 3D. What I really need at this early stage is a way to generate basic areas of surface finishes and floor areas and logically schedule these out. Does anyone know a good work flow or Plugin that might be able to help me out with this.
