Extend face/plane

Is there an easy way to extend a face or plane to another object quickly.
It would make fixing solids allot easier.Thanks

yes, as an example i am trying to clean up this geometry pictured below.
i have added a solid to another but the two did not exactly line up so i would like to extend the two sets of surfaces so that they meet in a single "ridge" (shown in red) but it is a pain to draw each edge out from each vertex and build each individual face. i would just like to extend each face out a few inches and then do the intersect model command then trim off the junk.

the video is great but the sound is not working in my browser. (but i get the idea)
thanks for the info!!!P.S i am using chrome windows 8 and have the latest flash (and my sound works for everything else), in case you want to report the sound issue to the blog site that is hosting you videos.
