      Hello,
I'm a newbie and am using SketchUp 2014 and attempting to follow Dale Stephen's Sketchup Guide for Builders. In bringing a bearing wall footing up the the exterior wall footing, I am not able to erase just the line where the two meet. I end up, no matter what I do, erasing various faces and lines of the exterior wall or of the bearing wall footing. The downloaded tutorial that I am learning uses SketchUp 2013 and the eraser tool has a square 'head' for lining up with lines. In SketchUp 2014, that square 'head' is now a round circle. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything at all, but I want to mention it in case it does. I'm inside the group that I have formed for the footing layer, but I just can't seem to erase the single intersection lines. What am i doing wrong?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

It sounds like the faces on each side of the edge are not co-planar--that is, the edge is needed to complete these faces. Something is not square--edges not parallel. Look at your drawing with a style that has edges colored by axis (if the building is drawn to the axes). Also look with "hidden geometry" on to see if there are hidden edges in those faces.

Thanks, pbacot. Your answer makes logical sense to this beginner. I'll give it a try and let you know.

            Hi pbacot,
I have gone back to step one in the creation of a foundation as provided by Dale Stephens and I am just not able to erase where the bearing wall footing meets the exterior wall footing. I've printed off the narration for the instructional videos, highlighted what I think are the pertinent points and attempted to run through the steps multiple times without the pay-off at the end of getting the intersection line to erase. I am attaching the video script/narration for the entire series, but it's only Episodes 4 and 5 that I am speaking off. I do each of the steps and then want to do the clean-up that Dale suggests, but erasing just the intersection line isn't happening for me. I am asking, if you wouldn't mind, that you run through the two steps and create a foundation in SketchUp and see if you can get the intersection line to erase. For the life of me, I can't make it happen. Each time I think I have the solution by refining my earlier steps to make sure everything is square, when I get the final step it turns out that I don't!
Any further help would be tremendously appreciated.
            Kevin

Post your model or a screen shot at least and someone will be able to see the problem.

I see the pdf is taken down. I would probably not run up to the same problem, and we'd be back where we started. Posting a file is best. Then show what edge to delete. For m V.8 is best or 2013.
