SketchUp Maxwell materials

I have recently downloaded Maxwell for sketchUp 8 on mac.
When attempting to add .mxm materials downloaded from resources online, they either just render as white or when attempting to select the .mxm file from folder it is greyed out so I can not click it.
It has also opened in mxed and says "Texture not found!"
Help!
