New office is buying me a laptop.

I'm looking for something that can run sketchup and lumion on the go (main computer would be a desktop).

      CHECK YOUR PASSMARK SCORE
Please type in the name/series of your graphics card in the search field in the top right corner on the following page (eg, "Nvidia GTX 780"), and make a note of the number of PassMark points your graphics card has:
      http://www.videocardbenchmark.net

      SIMPLE SCENES IN LUMION:
Minimum 1,500 PassMark points and 1GB dedicated graphics card memory (RAM).

      MODERATELY COMPLEX SCENES IN LUMION:
Minimum 3,500 PassMark pointsand 3GB dedicated graphics card memory (RAM).

      VERY COMPLEX SCENES IN LUMION:
Minimum 5,000 PassMark pointsand 6GB dedicated graphics card memory (RAM).

it doesn't need to run as good as a desktop, but at least it needs to work.

Ohh... one more thing, When I mentioned I wanted a fast computer, I was told I will be traveling a lot and that I should consider something light over powerful.... Hopefully there's a happy medium somewhere πŸ˜›

It's not light, but I just ordered an Origin Eon 17s,:
        I7 4800MQ 3.7 g, 4gb gtx780m, 16gb 1600 ram, 240 g SSD & 500g mechanical.

        Should be plenty fast.

          Thanks,
That looks better than the one that I found: Razer Blade RZ09-01021101-R3U1

a high-clocked Core i5/i7 of the recent 4th series ('Haswell') as CPU and a dedicated GeForce GT/GTXm as GPU will lead to reasonale results.

a recommendation obviously depends on budget and location but if weight still has any relevance go with a 15" device as e.g. the nice Dell XPS 15 which is also avail with a QHD+ resolution (3200x1800) display.

            hth,
            Norbert

I've had great results with my ASUS Republic of Gamers G750JH-DB71 17.3" Notebook , it's heavy, and the power block is the size of a brick. But it rocks SU. I'm not that familiar with "Lumion", but I also use it for renders, and I'm a heavy PhotoShop user. It handles everything I throw at it.

              Just a moment...

Exaggeration makes a dull story better.
