Issues with cutting abstract shaped surfaces

I need help eliminating part of this object. the end result will be a wheel. the shape i want is enclosed by the red faces. can anyone give me advice on cutting out the rest of this surface? Im not sure what the best method would be.

First try to select everything, right click, intersect with selection, delete unwanted geometries.
