Yes, Google has splashed out and purchased Boston Dynamics, the same company whos terrifying work on both humanoid and dog-like (or, you know, Metal Gear-like) robots.

      http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/14/5209622/google-has-bought-robotics-company-boston-dynamics
Boston Dynamics currently has a contract with the US military's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is what robots like Atlas and Big Dog were built for.
That puts Google in the military contractor business, at least temporarily while the contract is honoured, though the company says it has no business staying in the field once those obligations are done.
So what does Google want Robots for???

Who knows...why are they developing driverless cars? They have a team here in Sacramento (mapping it I guess). We have all seen the little vans that drive around taking pics for Google Earth, but this is different. It is a car with a periscope going through the roof attached to a computer that fills the whole back seat. The driver and passenger have keyboards and monitors that just about fill the whole front area! Maybe there looking for drivers that don't complain lol

Yeah, I was reading about this move by Google last week. Robots are all the rage at the moment, just look at the 3D printing explosion!

I also read that China intends to replace many of its millions of workers with robots! That put me thinking. If manufacturing totally moves to robots how will folks be able to pay for what they produce as the robots will have replaced them in the workplace.

Maybe Google, MicroSoft and others have an idea to bring back 'manufacturing' to the USA and other countries in the Western World BUT only with the use of 'new breed' robots? I imagine a 'Western' new breed robot will work for the same 'pay' as a Chinese new breed robot πŸ˜‰

I also see where a new 'breed' of robots are carrying out surgical procedures with much more accurately than a surgeon is capable of. I wonder how many more human activities / jobs we will see robots moving into ...... a robotic barber?

Well there are moves in this direction. The video below shows a very brave man having his hair cut by a robot .... ouch!

            Robot Barber http://youtu.be/oMREA_XLQ1A

The next video is the Panasonic Head Care Robot which looks quite reasonable ...... would nearly have a go at this myself. http://youtu.be/IROoXFz5dj0

Interesting times ahead of us but also uprooting I imagine. The New World Order is just around the corner folks but where do humans fit into the picture?

            Mike

The fact an Arnold type terminator hasn't been seen running rampant on the news only proves that google have failed in their attempt at time travel, not that they haven't launched Skynet.
