Sketchup 8
-
Hi everybody :
I'm thinking about adding a plug-in to my SU 8. It's one of the rendering plugins. 1) What is the "process" of adding a plugin to SU 8 ? 2) Being a rendering plugin is an add-on, do I create my model first then use the rendering engine to finish it, correct ? I'm still kinda new to this. I've been using SU 8 for quite a while, and I love the ability to create just about anything imaginable. I've seen the galleries on the Rendering plugin websites. The results are pretty nice. I tried installing a Ruby plugin, in the past, but couldn't get it "installed" correctly. No-less, get it to work. I'd like to try to do the same thing with SU Podium or LIghtup. Then there's the questions on getting the desired results. Right now, I want to learn the process of "installing" a plugin. And knowing HOW to use a plugin. And having it function correctly. Sorry about "running on and on........" garystan

Hi, Gary:
I am guessing that most of the rendering plugins have installers(exe files) found at the render website. Those installers will either properly locate the program or instruct you in the installation process on the destination folder or file. I recently installed a renderer from Brighter3d. The process was fairly simple. In most cases, the websites describe the installation process, what you need to do and how to implement the program.
As you know, there are quite a few rendering applications out there: free, eval and purchase, purchase outright. Here is Sketchucation page: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=81%26amp;t=3220#p15472

Well, I'm shocked if you don't have any plugins installed... There are so many awesome ones.
Renderers are normally seen as extensions and installed via the window>preferences>extensions menu. However they are each individual beasts... some are not even ran within sketchup but outside of it. Some are ran completely inside of SU.
Eitherway you can install it as soon as you like. it won't effect your model.
Get the Sketcucation Plugin Store plugin first. If you have any issues installing any plugin just start a post in the plugins section of the forum, one of us will be by to help out very soon. As far as renderers let us know which one you're looking at and we can assist you further.
