I think you can approximate it this way:

        • export sketchy line style image with white faces
        • use a colored or rendered version as an overlay in your photo editing software
        • us a marker stroke to modify the layer mask for the colored image

I've been working on something similar. I use a couple of different Sketchy Hidden Line exports at different sizes to control line weight. The textures/materials get exported separately and run through either a filter in PS or Fotosketcher. Then the images get combined using the Multiply setting for the layers.

I've got a few other things in the works for doing things like the marker textures.

Good to hear you are working on something Dave.

BTW, the style reminds me of Piranesi output http://www.piranesi.co.uk/index.html

Thanks guys... I don't really do any post work. No one pays me for it. i can always find a style that approximates something I need. I'll keep my eye on for Dave to put something out.

This reminds me of Michelle Morelan's work: http://schematiclife.blogspot.com/

She uses hand sketches with pencil and marker, and sometimes a Sketchup model as an underlay. 23 min tutorial: http://vimeo.com/groups/2Danimation/videos/13479536
