Is it a joke, or there is a reason for making the house this tight?

Japanese house are most of the time this tight.... but one wont feel it tight because of the use of double heights/windows and open spaces across the house... and if you search for more you ll find more tight then this one

the left part of house is 8' wide inside wall to wall and the right one is 10'..
thats my assumption i guessed from furniture layout -
If you think that's tight, consider this:

I know there are tight spaces in Japan, but for the reason. As far as I see here, it wasn't necessary.

You are right. In personal space, inches/centimeters really matter. Some folks understand this. In this particular project, significant emphasis is placed on the "public" area, which is nice. Perhaps in the private areas 10' and 12' respectively would be nice, too. Especially if the property can allow it.
By the way, I am not a fan of galley kitchens, if some other configuration is available. All of the above is strictly my opinion, and all due respect to others' is extended.

i think personal spaces depends on country to country and culture to culture.. i am from pakistan and here we have very open spaces attached bath to every bedroom even in apartments we had attach bath with every bed even servant room. which i think think is luxury in country like germany/UK etc.

Having had a look at the room allocation, there appears to be a problem. They have a 'kids room' but only one bedroom I can see, are the 'kids' put on a coathanger every night and tidied away into a wardrobe? THAT could catch on........
