Base Camp 2014.
-
@ Jan; we're hoping to provide a more detailed agenda in advance this go-round, but it's likely that might not be available until late January. That said, we want the big focus to be learning, so we're looking to do sessions that focus on modeling/documentation workflows broadly. The hope is to make it easy for your boss to say yes.
In general, we did want to make this Basecamp attractive to folks with families -- not sure if that's a good or bad thing yet! (Everyone likes wine, right!)

How's your downhill skiing?

It has been some years since I have been skiing as I now live in southern Sweden but once it was good.
My childhood hero was Ingemar Stenmark if you remember him.

Or Ingemar and I go way back.
I was thinking you could tell your boss you'll be going to learn some very important downhill maneuvers. Would he go for that?

Very cool location, and excellent skiing! Back bowls of Vail..........

The problem is that he thinks I'm quite good as it is...
I was hoping for something specific that I could say I needed learning.Jan, why not have a think about what you feel you would like to learn and mention it here. Maybe that could go for others that may end up going! I am sure Mark would welcome suggestions.

Nick, it looks like you have skied at this location already. I checked the route maps and see there are three locations.
Front Side http://www.vail.com/~/media/Vail/Files/TrailMaps/Frontsidemix.jpg
The Back Bowls / Blue Sky Basin http://www.vail.com/~/media/Vail/Files/TrailMaps/Backside.jpg
I also notice that the various runs show as Green, Blue and Black. Do they have Red runs?
@Pete Did you have a Bowl named after you? Pete's Bowl!!!

Mike, no red runs here in the US, just single black diamond and double black diamond.........plenty challenging. I've actually not skied there, but know plenty of folks who have, and they all rave about the back bowls. Do a search on YouTube and you can see just how beautiful the ski area is.

MikeThats a good idea, and I have been thinking.
Exept for some Ruby programming what I want to learn is stuff mostly not existing in current SU.
Like advanced camera path animation (with speed ups and slowdowns), how to model efficiently for export to 3dsMax, dynamic terrain modelling, dynamic roads on terrain and texturing with smooth transitions between different surface materials, working with quads and Bezier surfaces in SU,(hint) and of cause how to work efficiently with heavy imported Revit models in the all new 64 bit SketchUp 2014... (Sorry, couldn't resist.) -

Now which hat will I turn up in...?..... and we missed your jovial ways at the last 3DBC Andrew. Although Oz was well represented by some lunatic riding around on a pink push bike doing wheelies and such

Missed my snoring, huh?
It'll be good to see you again, Andrew. It sounds like I'll have the family along although I expect they'll go skiing all day if they can.

Sounds like fun, but I'll not make it yet again.
-
So glad I happened by Google+ the other day to see Base Camp 2014 reposted there!
Planning on making the trip, can't believe I missed the last one. -

Thanks Mike, yeah, I know Andrew Dwight attended last year so its good to know we kept the beer stocks down.... my daughters birthday is on the 12th of April so I might stumble out of a cab and straight to the first session I'd say!

Probably no outdoor firepit to huddle around at the wee hours of the morning.
True, but since last time we were there something became 100% legal, who needs a fire pit? may need a Cheetos vending machine however.
