      thanks for the answer

im gonna upgrade to a new machine, of course, but its not happening now, i'll have to wait until the begining of 2014

but i need a rendering software to work with, in the meantime
so, from what i understood, Thea 1.3 is heavy on GPU, right? maybe work with VRay for now, and in 3/4 months, with a powerfull new machine, switch to Thea

ok, sorry all for the off-topic
expecting to see more great renderings in this thread

No, The new thea will still have the CPU based engines like BSD, TR1 and TR2, the new Presto which right now is only GPU will now have an only CPU option added as well as a GPU + CPU option, so in essence Thea is expanding the render options.

From a testers point of view I can honestly say the new Presto gives TR1 results (unbiased) in mere minutes using the new GPU + CPU option. I do not like comparing render engines but will say that Vray has nothing on the new Presto engine as far as speed goes.

          ohhhh, i see

now that you put it that way, i guess it would be better for me to start right now with Thea (even if i have to put up with 30 minute to 3 hour rendering times, with my old 4 thread pc...), and in a couple of months upgrade to a new machine with Nvidia GPU...

          thanks for the help,
you are a great artist, but also very helpful to new guys like me πŸ‘ πŸ‘

i think that when a model is exceptional as yours is, obtaining good rendering results is much easier
                  even for beginners like me...

here's another one, sorry for the "alternative texturing" hahahaha, i just couldnt resist

Gold! I love it. I would have never thought of that.

There was in fact, a special edition Rolleiflex that used gold trim and red leather. I don't remember the model as I was focusing on the standard model, but I did see 2 pictures while searching.

                    Nice render xonpt.

10 hours rendering with Kerky using MLT. It's going to take me a few more years to get better than this.

I will probably first need to actually buy a good rendering program. πŸ˜†

Bryan I've not used Kerky and am a total beginner myself, but adding an environment to your render would change things. You are probably using materials that reflect and they need something to reflect. So something as simple as faces placed around your subject gives it something to reflect. Think of it as looking in mirrors, if there is a blank white wall where you are looking it is boring, but if the mirror is showing the TV it's interesting. This isn't actually very good advise as there are much more betterer ways of doing it, but it is a good way to get to grips with some of the concepts of rendering.
