    Strange crash related to hardware acceleration in SketchUp

      I've encountered what I think to be a very strange crash bug that has no rhyme or reason.

      I've only noticed it happening (a) when making a component and clicking create or (b) when saving the sketch (mind you, the sketch does not get saved). SketchUp will crash without hesitation every time I do either of those things. It does not hang or freeze, it just instantly closes. And there are no crash related messages.

      If I disable hardware acceleration, the crash no longer occurs. SketchUp kind of sucks without hardware acceleration though.

      I tried looking for other people with this same problem to no avail. Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions?

      OS: Windows 8
      CPU: Intel 4770K
      GPU: NVIDIA GTX 780
      GPU Driver: 326.84
      OpenGL Version: 4.4

        Hi Neil, I would recommend rolling back your video card driver (perhaps to a version that's 6-12 months old).

        Does this crash happen on all models, or just a specific model?

        Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

          Unfortunately the oldest driver I can install is 320.18, which was released in May 2013. Any older and the NVIDIA installer says my hardware is not supported. With 320.18, the issue remains.

          All models. Even starting fresh with a new template and trying to save it will cause a crash. Same with drawing a few lines and attempting to create a component out of them.

          I also tried reinstalling SketchUp a few times.

            And whe it crashes, are you getting the bugsplat message popup? Or does it shut down completely and never prompt you to submit a crash report?

            If you are submitting a report, would you mind telling me what name or email address you are submitting on that report? (You can PM it to me if its information you don't want shown publicly).

              Nope, I am not getting a bugsplat message nor any message for that matter. It crashes instantly. Is there a way I can manually log what is happening?

                I no longer experience the crash which leads me to believe it was an NVIDIA driver issue; I am using the latest beta drivers (331.40).
