Trying to use Fredo's Curviloft with 8Pro. Worked yesterday, but today it's freezing at 99% or less when rendering a fairly simple curved leg. I've closed, rebooted, everyting I can think of but it keeps freezing and won't finish the render. HELP!

You say it is a "simple leg" but how many segments in the curves? Any chance of posting the SKP file that is giving you problems?

Ended up doing it manually with soften edges but it's not quite what I want. I guess there are about 10 curved segments in the leg but I welded them together. Maybe that's the issue? Anyway, Here's the SKP.
          Thanks, Ron

There's 503 segments in the wavy curve between the ends. No wonder its slowing down. Either go do something else while you wait for it to finish or reduce the number of segments in the curve. For that curve you should be able to reduce it to under 100 segments and be just fine.

I can bump down the segments but I get tired of "choppy" looking curves. I waited about 45 minutes and I have a reasonably fast computer. Oh well, maybe bump it just before I go to bed and by morning, it'll be ready, LOL! Thanks so much!!

Well, if you create that much geometry for just the leg, you're going to find by the time you add copies of the leg and the rest of the piece of furniture that your model will be difficult to work with.

I reduced the path to just 63 segments. It doesn't look "choppy" to me. Does it to you? Can you tell the difference between your original curve to the right and my simplified one to the right of my version of the leg?

How many segment did you use for each arc?

I just used a total of 63 segments for the entire length of the wavy path. I didn't divide it into arcs.

Although there are tools that would simplify the curve, I just did it manually and kind of eyeballed it to get it to be right. I exploded and made a component of your curve and then sort of traced down it with the Line tool making sure I hit endpoints along your curve. It's easier to do that if you turn on endpoints in the Styles dialog. I deleted your curve and welded mine. That's what you see immediately to the right of my leg in the images.

I wouldn't have used the Arc tool to draw the initial curve anyway. I'd have used the BZ_Spline tools.

I'll take a look at those. I'm a furniture designer and I'm so busy I seldom have time to look at plugins although I know they would make my life easier. Thanks again Dave!!!
