I would imagine there was something that went up this water spout.

This happened in Florida a couple days ago. My wife saw a number of them when she lived in Mobile, one while she was crossing the bay.

the water isn't being sucked up in a way it might appear.. (as if that's a giant column of water- it's air circulating there as opposed to water)

i think it has something to do with the cloud forming over water (lake evaporating into a cloud).. not really sure though.

awesome vid though.. good visuals with funny commentary- what's not to like πŸ˜„

                From Wikepedia:

A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex (usually appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud) that occurs over a body of water, connected to a cumuliform cloud. In the common form, it is a non-supercell tornado over water. While it is often weaker than most of its land counterparts, stronger versions spawned by mesocyclones do occur. Waterspouts do not suck up water; the water seen in the main funnel cloud is actually water droplets formed by condensation.

Thanks for clearing that up!! There really are some spectacular weather phenomena in the US! We just complain about the occasional bit of rain in the UK. πŸ˜’

While the United Kingdom has more reported tornadoes, relative to its land area, than any other country excluding the Netherlands, the vast majority are weak.

When I worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico you would see waterspouts often. It got kinda scary while working in the Derrick 120' in the air and the spout is heading your way πŸ˜„

As awesome as a waterspout may look, I don't think it can hold a candle to a SHARKNADO!
