      HI,

I have used Maya for modelling in the past and it has a "bridge command" where you can connect two faces with a profile curve.

How does one do this in SketchUp?

I have tried FOllow Me, Shape Bender, Edge extrusion tools and profile builder, but none can seem to do this.

The width between the two curves is variable although they end up being the same width.

      Anyone have any ideas?

I have uploaded the 2013 file if anyone wants to have a stab at it.

Follow Me and Keep works the best so far but it doesn't terminate properly.

          Hello,
Either TIG's Extrude Tools, or Fredo6's Curviloft come to mind.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

I agree with Tim, both of those would work, but it's also ideal for shape bender.
You need to understand how shape bender works, it's worth experimenting with because once you understand it it is a very useful tool.

              Hi,

I tried using ShapeBender, but it didn't seem to terminate properly at either end of the shape's rail curve.

I actually don't think this is possible because the two rail curves are not parallel, now that I think of this more.

Maybe in the end its just best to do this manually (using a combo of joint push pull, loft, and TIG's extrude edge by vectors).

Thanks for taking a look though! 😄

I'm always wanting to look to draw things faster.

in your case all you need is Fredo's 'curve shearing' and 'follow me and keep'.
there's no need in face briging.

Yes, I have tried those tool, but two thtings arose though.

Those lines are parallel when using follow me and keep, the ones I have been given to "3D-efiy" aren't parallel.

The end when using those tools also produce a model that is not perpendicular to the x axis. Not a problem on a 4 sided object, but when you have gutter, wall etc.. it becomes a little more annoying to patch.

                    Curviloft along a path ? (but you have 2 path ! )
So put some sections for a same result!

Curviloft does not work immediately. I've tried it extensively. Only when I split faces in 3 sections could I be able to create the right meshes.

The problem is curves are bottlenecking and need to follow not one but two unparallel rails. What I got with this is that the rails now have a fixed thickness, wich should be good for construction purposes.

That's a tough one and made me wish for that bridge tool you got on Maya.

                      See attached file.

                      Best regards,

                      JQL
