Apple's WWDC 2013 announces the Mac Pro 'trash can'!

It does look like a trash can. The specs on it are incredible and only 6"x9" I thought the website was even cool.

I hope the 'trash can' is not going to be too expensive! It looks to be quite portable now at the new size. This new form factor may also set a standard for the desktops. I'd say the other big name manufacturers are sitting up and taking a lot of notice.

Some desktops are (or can be made) already so small, but only sold as "net tops". But nowadays also powerful hardware could fit in the form factor, the question is how to make the form factor attractive to Pro users.
Where does it have its CD/DVD drive? That's an expectation that will change soon.

Good points! Yeah, space is becoming tighter in both homes and offices. I'm getting used to the idea of a 'trash can' design on the desk. The top looks like an ashtray so I'd better be careful if I ever get a Mac Pro. I see no need for a CD/DVD intergated drive these days. I one is needed I suppose the super drive could be purchased. This is what I did with the MBP Retina.

the top is were all the ventilation is routed through so you're sure to get a quick reminder when you try to ash a cig in it
the thing is 6.5"d x 10" tall.. if comparing to what it may look like on a desk, probably more like a candle than a trash can.

I'm really wondering what it'll look like on a desktop with a big power cable coming out of it.
(Not mentioning screen cable, mouse, keyboard, etc...)
I'm not sure it'll be so sexy then. Or you hide those, but since all USB slots and power button are there, it'll be a pain in the ass. -
How come most companies (like G & T SU) are SO hush-hush about what (if anything) is coming next, then Apple releases specs on a major product months before release?

Its far from normal for Apple to make these kind of announcements like the New Mac Pro due in 9 months time. I've read comment that one reason may be that they thought that details would be leaked as those folks down in Texas, where they are going to be assembled, can never keep a secret ...... right Pete?
Joking aside, the assembly will bring a lot of much needed jobs to the US and I'm glad to see Apple taking this step.

I think this is a rare instance in appleland as they're generally very tight lipped regarding future products.. but they're playing a different game than most software companies.. I really don't get why the future of sketchup / roadmap is so secretive.

As regards Apple. From what I have read I think there might be three good reasons they announced the new Mac Pro at this time. Firstly there was not much else in terms of new hardware to be announced. Secondly, news probably would have leaked as they are going to assemble in the US and there is a lot involved in setting this up! And thirdly, they were able to emphasized the ASSEMBLED IN THE USA badge! They have been getting some stick of late about US tax avoidance so this announcement went some ways, I imagine, to smoothing the troubled waters.
As regards, TSU's hush hush policy. We must remember its a new company in effect and has to be finding its feet with Trimble. Twelve months is a short enough time to reorganise / relocate. So the hushness is more than likely due to policy in the making rather than not being willing to share a roadmap with its users. They are listening which is very positive
