Google Earth preview vs Google Earth terrain layer
-
Hi all.
I have a question regarding the Google Earth preview versus the Google Earth terrain layer in SU.
When creatiing the model using the SU GE layer, it all aligns nicely, but when previewing the model in GE, it appears to be sunken into the terrain.
I feel that his has happened to more and more models lately, and i have had to raise the models (already accepted models), and reupload them to GE to make them appear correct.
Does anyone have any comments on this?

I have always enjoyed and used the Google Earth Preview as a way to actively share emerging building designs with clients who had nothing but Google Earth.
With the sad news that Google Earth is abandoning the model placement concept, I wonder what happens with the whole geo-location grab and preview aspect of Google Earth and SketchUp. Can SketchUcation put it into non-tech terms?
Have I lost the ability after October 1 to get terrain and imagery from google earth as a base for a model?
Have I lost the ability to share the Model on the earth with a client through preview?
Will I be able to get 3d models of trees and cars and people and products through 3d warehouse?
What's it all mean?
I can't go back to a pay-through-the-nose world of AutoDesk or ESRI...I finally had a tool that was better than a pencil and paper...kinda sounds like I have lost a pretty big part of it.
Please clarify.

I think I have read (but don't remember where):
- You can open local kmz-files in GE in the future too
- Import of terrain should be not affected
- The models of the building layer remain in the 3D warehouse
- Only areas with new data available are replaced

Well, to-date the news only is that the 3D Warehouse route to populate GE with 3D models on the public 3D Layer will be closed. There has not been any info about the software (either SU or GE) being crippled and geolocation or displaying models removed.
You can even keep uploading models to the 3D Warehouse, even make them not public and share only with clients who can download the models and watch them on GE.
That is; for the time being. I am not sure what will come in the future and I guess no-one can predict.
