Guys, anyone who's importing / exporting SU to DWG or visa versa, I'm wondering what the hierarchy layer punctuation marks is?

Obviously with SU, Layer 0 is always first on the list then sorted alphabetically either way. I've been looking at what digits take precedence over others in the Layer Manager prior to numbers then letters. See attached:

      SU_hierarchy.png

Now, when you export to ACAD, do these digits still take precedent? And visa versa?

      Does ACAD recognize spaces?

Area there certain digits that aren't recognized?

      purpose/expression/purpose/....

Hi, not a complete answer and I haven't worked with a current version of Autocad for some but...

AFAIK only $ _ and - are valid characters other than A-Z, a-z and 0-9. the program wouldn't normally allow a layer name with a comma for instance.

How many layers has your drawing got? If it's more than 200 (yikes) Autocad will may have issues, try this:

enter MAXSORT in command box, if number is <200, change it to equal your number of layers. Be aware that high MAXSORT numbers can slow a .dwg

        cheers, Nigel

Thanks Nigel, I thought this thread was dying a slow death.... πŸ‘

I don't use ACAD myself but do import / export to it, hence the question.

I have used '.' [fullstop] in SU layers but don't know how it exports. Maybe a test export with many punctuation marks should yield an answer...
