Yet no option to have larger thumbnails in Windows Explorer for SketchUp? (plugin/tweak... something?)

Neither Explorer (or any other file manager) nor SketchUp's skp explorer extension create the thumbnails. They just use the embedded 128×128px thumbnails that SketchUp creates when you save a skp file.

Attempts to provide larger thumbnails need to solve two problems:
        1. create the image each time when SketchUp saves a file,
2a. link the image to the skp file (or register it in the system's thumbnail database which is not trivial on Windows).
2b. or embed the thumbnail into the skp. This is risky and can corrupt the skp file.
For 1 exist plugins like SnapShot (maybe also others)
For 2a, I have a personal plugin, but it's not designed for Windows.

You could also try uploading and downloading the model to/from 3D Warehouse. There is evidence that 3dwh embedds a bigger thumbnail: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=47450&p=431932#p431932

          Hello to all,

does anybody by any chance now how to display these content Thumbnails in Windows 8? Becaus since I use Win8 i am missing the thumnails that give a sneak preview of the file content. I only can see the trimble SU logo.

          thx in advance,

You use a 64 bit version of Windows (8). Unfortunately 64bit Windows Explorer does only work with 64bit thumbnail creators, and SketchUp's thumbnailer extension is 32bit. See this thread: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=43929&p=391768#p391768

Does it make LARGER thumbnails, or it just makes it possible for x64 ?

Only SketchUp can create images of SketchUp models (other software could use SketchUp's SDK to read .skp files, but the rendered images wouldn't have the exact SketchUp style). As far as I know the thumbnailing progras just extract the 128px embedded thumbnail, so no larger.
There are plenty of scripts on SketchUcation that can export larger 2d images out of SketchUp.
