Wrong Parent dimensions when using the copies attribute
-
Hi
I am pretty new to Sketchup, but I am really liking what you can do with DC's.
I am currently battling with a weird issue.
I have created two simple DC's and grouped this into a Parent DC. Now when I make copies of the DC Children with the copies attribute, I don't get the right size (LinX, LinZ or LinY)of the Parent DC. The Parent DC still displays the old size, without the copies.
How do I get the current size of the Parent DC. I have already tried the current() function, to no avail.
What am I getting wrong?
Thanks

Hi Bearskin,
Are you using Components and not Groups in your DC?

Bearskin,
Have you tried configuring your sizing formulas in the children to reference dimensions of the parent?

Hi Jim,
Yes I am using components.... but I just did the same experiment with groups and the result is the same.
This time I created two groups (renamed them Box1 & Box2) and made these two groups into a component (Boxes). Then I used the copies attribute e.g. in Box1 I made copies=3 and X=COPY*20.
Although the Parent Boxes has become visually bigger (I also measured) the size is not mirrored in the attribute data window. The size of boxes is unchanged. And once you start scalling you get all weird sizes.

blruuska,
Like I wrote Jim. I want to make copies within the parent component and I would like to have the true size of the parent so that I can reference other groups/components to e.g. Parent!LenX. Put currently if I make copies I see that the components is different in size but this is not reflected in Parent!LenX. The size stays the same and once I start scalling it is all over the place.
