Decorative border
-
Hi
I created this model to give as a border to the sunshade of a building. But a large number of pieces are required for the entire length of all the sunshades. This increases the memory requirements for sketchup and the computer froze several times. So I decided not to use it. But I may find use for it in the future for modeling a Chair or a table or other such furniture.

Very cool design.

Nice. Why not create a texture from an orthagonal view?

Have to ask..you did make it a component, right?
-
Yes. I did make it into a component. Also tried to make all pieces of a single floor into a nested component. Then I assigned them to a new layer and turned off that layer while not working on it. All that didn't help to reduce the memory usage.

Time for a new computer
I have never had a slowdown due to memory in Sketchup on my Intel i7 Ivy Bridge overclocked at 4.7ghz, Nvidia GTX 670 4gb, 16gb RAM, 256gb SSD.

what are your slow-downs due to, if not memory? Or how do you know a crash is memory based or..?

Mine doesn't slow down ever, there was one time I tried to load 20 floors of fully furnished apartments into a high-rise and it froze for 5 minutes but the floors loaded and rendered after the freeze.
