Renderer for a Shapeways object maker
-
I would like to have a recommendation for a nice affordable Sketchup plugin for rendering of my Shapeways objects. (Preferably one that honestly and predictably tells me what I have to pay for the product and its upgrades. And who has a reliable method of payments.)
-
I don't think such a plugin exists, but it would be useful!
What do you mean by "rendering"? Do you mean a photorealistic render plugin like Twilight?
What would the plugin do, besides telling the price of the model?
-
Yes, I mean a photorealistic renderer, and there is a long list of them listed in Sketchup plugins. I am already using one of them. Only wanted to listen to ideas that other designers may have.
Today I feel that this one company likes to be more inventive in creating new untold payments for the customer than it is in creating new features for the software. So, a bit of frustration is in the air.
-
Oh, I misunderstood your original post.
You're looking for a good rendering plugin for your designs for 3D printing, correct? Are the renders to be used for promotion, or your own use?
If for promotion, personally I like to just order prints and take photos of the real thing. Photos are more realistic, and you get to test the prints for any problems before promoting them.
As far as a render plugin for product design, I prefer Twilight for its simplicity. Thea would be my next choice as I've seen excellent renders from it. Twilight is good if you're beginning, and Thea excellent for more advanced users.

I am a Mac user which limits the list a bit. Thanks anyway for the first good ideas.
I like to use both photos and phororealistisc renderings.
-
I believe both are 100% Mac compatible, at least I know Thea is.
-
Twilight for Mac is still in beta, I believe.

My first post must have been confusing because of my dissatisfaction with the photorealistic rendering plugin for sketchup.
Apologies.
Dissatisfaction is caused by their greediness for new kinds of payments. They are using SWREG, of which I have never heard before. Googling the net that service is not favored by all customers. Now me included.
I know how Shapeways works and how to work with it. So no problem there. Have done several models and sold some.
Only wanted people's opinions of plugins that they are using.

To which company are you referring?

Found a good piece of software right from the Sketchup plugin list. Time to go on.
Thanks guys for sharing your thoughts with me.

Well, this will be a confusing thread for others who come along. Could you clarify things?

Which company?

Who are you saying is greedy? Who is using SWREG?

Which one is the "good piece of software?"
