Sketch up vs 3ds max

Hi all
i am a newbie in architectural visulisation and i am very interested in those area.
i have a question. in the industry, is sketch up used more than 3ds max?? or is 3ds max used more?? what's the difference in terms of producing visual outcome?? does 3ds max make more realistic?
i only know sketchup and don't know about 3ds max. -

I think at this point it is largely a matter of personal preference and that type of work you are tying to do. Arguably, there are some buildings being designed out there that would just be too difficult to model in SketchUp and something like 3dsmax might make more sense. And sometimes your clients might be making their buildings in a certain software already, so in that case it might make sense to be able to switch between SketchUp, 3dsmax, Revit, Rhino, etc. so you can work with your clients native file format.
Otherwise, 3dsmax and SketchUp are used very often in this field. 3dsmax has a photoreal render engine built into it (a few of them really). SketchUp does not. So if you want photoreal images from SketchUp, look into Kerkythea, or better yet Thea or any of the others. There are lots out there and each is better for different reasons.
