Kids energy spies.

Not sure why kids can't just be kids and have fun while they can. This to me is scary.
Quote:
"On the website page is a link to a 26-page EPA report entitled, “Sensible Steps to Healthier School Environment.” In the report’s chapter on Energy Efficiency, the EPA presents a box with items to help establish “Energy Efficiency Opportunities for Schools.”
One of the items in the box reads, “Educate students and staff about how their behaviors affect energy use. Some schools have created student energy patrols to monitor and inform others when energy is wasted.”

So, you think there's something wrong about teaching kids to be responsible? How odd.
-
Oh boy, we are getting very close to the election, the right-wing anti government rhetoric is about to get louder.

"So, you think there's something wrong about teaching kids to be responsible? How odd."
Nothing in my post indicates I am against "teaching kids to be responsible". I thought we had enough of kids spying on their parents in WWII. Guess not.
I am all for teaching kids about energy, just wish the teaching had a little more depth than "oil or coal bad, wind and solar good".
The last few news article I have read, the Germans are learning that maybe wind generators are not the solution they believed or were told.
Solo
"Oh boy, we are getting very close to the election, the right-wing anti government rhetoric is about to get louder."
Solo, you live in a black and white world, "right-wing nut" or "religious nut" is the depth of most of your post. Never could figured out why you are so irascible. Then it came to me, a liberal living in Texas, now that has to be a personal hell.
Now the term "Go Aggies" will have new meaning to me.
Now to both of you. The one point I wanted to address is the schools creating kids energy patrols to monitor and inform others when energy is wasted. Who are the "others".
I just think using kid to monitor anything is absolutely the wrong direction.
Teach kids the basic of energy production, the use and the overall efficiently of various energy sources.
And then allow kids have to a good time playing and learning how to interact with other groups. Don't use kids as the government's surrogate to investigate and tattle.
Have a good day
Solo, a real Texas Margarita' coming your way in Boulder.

Ken,
There's quite a huge gap between "awareness" and "SPIES". I think it's good that they are doing something to engage kids. What do you think about recycling programs in school then? Is that fascist too? (I say this with bias, as my family fled communist Hungary, and the kind of spying there was actually a matter of life or death, not some [yes, right-wing] bloviating about "socialism" here in the US.)Andy

I agree about the awareness, have no problem with education about energy. Just thought that having the government encouraging kids to patrol and inform was a little over the top. Again, let kids be kids and enjoy the precious little time they have to be free of world problems.
Recycling programs again no problem. Not sure how awareness or recycling programs are fascist.
"Right-wing", Andy, I have no idea who you are, and I know you have no idea who I am. So your statement "not some [yes, right-wing] bloviating about "socialism" here in the US.)"no sure how you justify that statement from my post.
Have a great day modeling.

Ken,
Without looking like I'm baiting you, can you tell me what your opinion is regarding Michelle Obama's school food program in order to reduce obesity?

Ken, sure, I don't know you either. But when you said kids spying and WWII, I was assuming you are talking about fascism. I only hear the US gov't being compared to fascists from the right-wing. Hope I wasn't making too many leaps.

I suspect you may be misinterpreting the wording of this statement.
To monitor and inform, means notice that too many lights are on in a room and inform those in the room that it would be a good idea to use less lights and not to forget to turn the lights off when they leave the room.
You are reading Inform as run of and tell tales when it means educate or explain or make aware off etc
Personally I think it is a great idea to Inform children as soon as they are able to understand.
Informing them about healthy eating and exercise would be a good idea too.
