Sketchup 8 crashing repeatedly
-
HI,
I ve been working on a interior project lately and m facing a serious problem. My sketchup file is crashing repeatedly and unable to work on the same file. I can work on other file bit on that particular file. The size of the file is around 170 MB which I dont hink would be issue. Also ve noticed that sketchup using too much of my comp memory. I ve been working on a mack book pro.
Need really your input guys as how to recover my file. thnx.

I have notice this also. I have determine that it occurs when using the obit or move tool. I see a slight delay and the program will shuts down. Now when I notice this slight delay, I head for the select arrow and sometimes this seems to stop the crash. The esc key does not prevent the shut down.
However, I have know way of knowing if Sketchup was going to crash, or I was just nervous. Also this crash appears to occur if I haven't saved the project. So now when I know I am going to do a lot of obit and moving, I use the Crtl-S, and save the project. The program has never crashed if I use the Crtl-S at a rate of a save every one to two minutes.
I also notice if I start a new project and I don't save this new project and just start working this problem occurs relatively soon.
I am trying to determine if this occurs when I try to use the obit or move at the same time that Sketchup is doing a auto file save.

170 MB is pretty large. Depending on your computer, it could make SU crash, especially when autosaving. Try purging the model and using components as often as you can.

170 megs is a huge SU file... You may be knocking on the backdoor of the program's capability.

SU will try to dynamically update the 'Components Window' and 'Outliner Window' if they are open, it can really play havoc on mac's cpu usage, try and keep any extra windows closed until you actually need them, then close them after...
may not be your issue but it's a known problem.
Mountain Lion seems to handle larger models much better.

I've noticed that on PC with large models too. I keep mine closed minimized until needed.

I can report that having the Components Window pane closed while fiddling with the Outliner dramatically reduces the likelihood of crashes. I had been getting crashes in relatively small models too, so I think there is a problem with the code somewhere.
I use a Mac also.
