Maxwell Render - Printing Images
-
Hey guys,
I'm back with yet another query. This time it's about printing clear rendered images. I recently provided presentation boards of 3D visuals and the quality of the images in print were very disappointing even though on screen they looked fine. The rendering resolution was set at 1596 x 724 but the printed image was quite blurred. Can someone provide advice on what I need to do to ensure crisp images?? I've attached the images I'm referring to.
Thanks in advance,
Anita

How big were the printouts? The reason I ask is you typically want at least 180 pixels per inch (300 is preferable) for anything you will see up close.

There are several parameters that influence printing translation from screen to printer. This site: http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/printing/resolution/1_which_resolution_print_size_viewing_distance.htm has quite a bit of good information you may find helpful. Most of what you need is on the first page.
There is a very good chart and calculator that will give you the image size and printer dpi necessary to get fine results.
This page: http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/printing/1_calculators.htm has a simple to use calculator where you can "fill in the blanks" to determine the image size ppi and printing resolution in dpi for almost any size print you need to do.
I hope this may be helpful.
Cheers.

Thanks for this peeps. Wow, I never realised that you had to calculate all of this stuff just to print something. Everytime I think I'm getting somewhere there's always something else to consider!!! Grrrrrr!!! Jason, I reduced the image to half an A4 page because I knew that if it was too big it may have been blurred but it still wasn't overly clear.
Idahoj thanks for that link - I'm going to have to undertake quite a bit of study to familiarise myself with all of this ppi and dpi stuff. Sigh.
Cheers
Anita
