Is it possible to use a normal bitmap image as background image? I played around with slapping an .jpg on a face and then placing it correctly to the camera. this can work but there are some issues with the face blocking the lighting and so on. In the settings for the lighting only .hdr images can be selected for the channel and I don't have the context as .hdr - so a method where i can use non spherical images would be great! πŸ˜„
Does anyone know a better way to create a bg fast (that still looks real! πŸ˜„)

If you have an image that you want to use as a background, but not have it interact with the lighting from the scene then set it for "hidden from GI".

I'm not near my copy of Maxwell right now so I can't test the ability to use 8-bit images in the background channel of IBL... if you have the full render suite I would check in Maxwell Studio as well (I've never needed to do this, so I don't know off hand).

        Best,
        Jason.

Yeah, there's no way to easily do this in Maxwell -- my best suggestion is to open the image in Photoshop and save it out as a HDR... which would then allow you to load it in the background channel.

          Best,
          Jason.

Thank you for the feedback Jason, I'll experiment with the psd method, I didn't think about saving it as .hdr - it will be interesting to see how it appears inside maxwell πŸ˜„
