I am desperately in need of help!

I am an architecture student and for my work I have to do plans and sections, so for these I use the section plane tool in sketch up. I then export this into layout, which works fine! But afterwards after I've made an A1 sheet with my work on I need to send it to Photoshop, so I've tried to save is as both a JPEG and a PDF, but in all of these the section cut do not show, instead it shows the outside of the building.. I really need it as a PDF showing the section cuts !!

I reallyyyy hope someone can me!
      thanks a lot guys

        Hi Harriet (and welcome)

When still in SketchUp, make scenes with your desired settings (section planes/cuts on/off etc.) Now in order for these settings to be "sticky",you either need to update your style or create a new one (for that scene).
Before this, best thing is to set "warn of style changes when creating[also modifying/updating]scenes"

Now every time you do a style change and want to add/update a scene, an annoying (but useful) dialog will pop up.

It shows when on layout, but not when I actually save it as a PDF..

          so grateful for you help!

Harriet, what I mean is that you need to fix the things in SketchUp first. Have you followed my advice to update your styles used in the scenes in SU (and then saving the file) before going to LO? (Or before updating the model in LO?)

Well I had put all of the drawings in the same style, which has worked fine for a 1:500 plan of my building. I jus made everything white with black lines do I could edit it on photoshop. I''m sorry but I am gettin really confused, I'm not really a pro at this yet πŸ˜„ would it be too much to ask to email you my work and possibly do it for me? Or is that askin too much?

                Hi Harriet, hi folks.

What Gaieus is explaining is that you must forget Layout and do the setup for your section plane in the SketchUp model using the SketchUp program. He is talking about styles in SketchUp, not styles in Layout

When you have done that and saved your SketchUp model from SketchUp, you can then send your file to Layout. Your section cut will be visible.

                Just ideas.

Post the SketchUp model and the LayOut file so we can look at what the problem might be. Otherwise, we'll all continue to talk past each other, and you.

All above are correct. The problem you are having is your Layout scene is probably set to "last saved scene", instead of the appropriate saved scene in SU. When you generate a PDF in layout it automatically updates the reference, so if the last saved reference is not a section saved scene, then you get the pdf shown as it was last saved in SU.

                    1. Set your scene in SU with section, name the scene and save.
                    2. In layout, in the Sketchup Model dialogue, select the same scene and render.
                    3. Export PDF and it should show correctly.
