I have always find this sport too violent for my taste, but in the light of recent news it seems there's more to it that simply taste. There are also serious health risks:

I played football from age 10 to 20, from grade school to college and I am absolutely not Drain Bramaged...

no but seriously... sports are dangerous and when two men or more, going smashing into one another a full speed it's gonna hurt. and it's gonna do damage. they knew the risk. think of it like race car driving. people die in sports. and they get hurt. if you've seen the helmets they use it is getting better.

Me too. . .I much prefer Boxing, Rugby, sumo, MMA, Roller Derby and Auto Racing . . .but only when they drive really really slow and they all signal properly and are courteous enough to let other drivers get in front of them.

If I make it look easy...It is probably easy

            Maybe it's a cultural thing.

The construction companies I've worked for include soccer, tennis, basket and volleyball fields and a few pools, but never an American Football field... It's practically unknown. Yes, soccer is dangerous, too. A lot of people have undergone knee surgery because of this, but it's not nearly as dangerous as the sports you guys mention. 😒

There's a difference in encouraging students to partake in a life threatening activity. Still I wouldn't want them denied river rafting, climbing, and other decent pursuits. It has to be given some thought--not just accepted. Football? eh!

Really? guys in spandex, tons of body armor and racing helmets that hardly touch each other is considered violent? Heck they do not even play for any extended period of time, Football is a game for the TV advertisers, boring as heck.

Rugby is Football for real men, even Hockey with all the pads is more of a mans sport, at least you get to bleed now and again.

statistically speaking (based on the percentage of participants who incur an injury), football is the most dangerous sport in america..

I used to play waterball. Despite those underwater scenes they are shooting nowadays, it is not a violent sport at all (you cannot seriously kick or hit anyone underwater - and of course, you cannot fall at all)

                                Gai...

I love American Football and follow it passionately. I am also a rabid fantasy football fan. Having said that I'd never let my kids play it at any organized level for fear of concussions or other long term undetectable injuries.

Unfortunately, like any sport, as long as there is lots of money involved many parents will let their kids play it on the hopes that one day they'll make it big. My town is filled with parents who push their kids hoping to score a scholarship. I'm tempted many times to ask them to push them this hard academically but I think I'd get shot for suggesting logic.

Dale, growing up I played both soccer and rugby (school level) and I remember our Irish rugby coach once saying " Soccer is a gentleman sport played by hooligans and rugby is a hooligan sport played by gentlemen" and there really is some truth in that, however I have to add that soccer also seems to bring the actor out of some players, ever seen how they feign an injury by rolling around in agony and on replay they were never even touched?

I haven't followed Football for years, mainly because it has become LESS violent. Heck. . you can't even put a bounty out on somebody anymore and try to seriously injur them and potenitally end their careers for a few measley bucks on top of their already grotesque salaries

We have seriously lost our way as a nation . . . 😒

where have you gone Joe DiMaggio...
our nation turns its lonely eyes to you. . .
                                          woo woo woo.

                                          💚

Seriously I stopped playing football as a teen-ager because I no longer wanted to be perceived as a troglodite Quasimodo and wanted to pursue more intellectual pursuits . . .but I couldnt get anyone to sponsor me in NASCAR.

If I make it look easy...It is probably easy
