Good evening everyone, and a happy easter to you all.

I can't think straight this evening so am after a bit of input from you experts.

How would I model the terrain around the sketched building which is attached. I've drawn a line around where the terrain could be. All I can think of at the minute is sandbox but this doesn't work. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be most appreciative. My head's a shed at the moment!

    Thanks.

    Lee

Why doesn't SB work(besides the quality)? you have to turn on hidden geometry and erase the inner field of faces. Isolate the lines bounding the form in a group to make it easier.

Did you want something like the attached? One problem is I don't see a clear path along the back of the building. I just added a line that isn't quite right. Other options are to use from scratch (drape a plan of the berm onto a from scratch grid, then pull up with Smoove). That gives you ability to make the berm more natural, OR use one of the skinning plugins like curviloft.

        Hi Peter,

Thanks very much for replying. I was originlly trying to bring the sedum roof over the building, too, I think thats where SB was going wrong? If I take it behind and to the sides of the building, then it works, as it does in your very clear example.

Would it be better to do the side/rear of the building and then the roof, seperately?

I would model the roof turf first as it should be regular. It doesn't look like you have any loft to it (or is that the turf top?), so you have to define its height. It might be a joint pushpull or other version of the roof and rounded on the edges (or have a curb along the living roof edges like this
            http://www.greenroofs.com/projects/ntu_singapore/ntu_singapore1,jpg
            .)
Then you'd want defined lines where it will join to the rest of the berm, and soften them. You could probably perfect it with Artisan or other organic modelling, but is that necessary?

EDIT. Here I added a curb and used your surface for the roof part, I deleted the wall sticking up in the back. I lost a face along the side, but it didn't fix easily so...roof turf with curb

Perhaps give a try with Soap Skin Bubble - http://www.tensile-structures.de/sb_software.html

Select perimeter and skin. Creates a good mesh for sculpting and provides a smooth graduation between changing grades.

                Adam,

That looks good. It gives you a chance to give the berm a more rounded feel and smooth transitions. Nice mowing job too!
