Help creating a cityscape?
-
Hi.
I have a little project on this week and apparently Sketchup might be helpful to use. I don't use any 3D software right now, so go easy on me!
It's for a sort of cityscape. A friend that used Sketchup a few years ago said that you can get plugins for doing that kind of thing. The finished image doesn't need to be 3d, I'm just going to paint it in photoshop, but it would help if I could map the thing out as a model to paint over.
Anyone on here know about this stuff? I'll probably have more than a few questions as I stagger blindly along. I'd like to eventually find someone local to me who doesn't mind showing me the ropes, as it looks like a nice package to use, but for now I just need some advice with this project.
Cheers.

Hi Mike,
I guess this topic will be useful as a starter (or at least inspiration). You can search Andy's posts in the Gallery for further stuff.

Thanks guys. I was hoping, knowing a little about how SketchUp works that I'd be able to design my city from above as a flat plan, squares, rectangles, circles etc, then tilt it slightly & pull up each element into 3d?

You can do that - in fact, there is even a useful plugin for that job. This is the easier part IMO.

Cool. How do I get the plugin to work on my mac?
