I had assumed that the stool was roughly based on this design by Manuel Welsky.

Didn't see it before, but he beats me with seamless transition
How did you find it? Is there a source for searching such ideas? -
I knew the design from memory, so I can't say where I first saw it. I think it might have been featured on our very own fine design thread, but since I receive email updates from Contemporist (see link) the chances are I remember it from an old newsletter.
To be honest I think that the screw mechanism doesn't allow for as many seat options and literally screwing the seat up and down could be more cumbersome than your design. With the SCRW stool I suspect that the choice of seat material would also be limited.

Yay, Cotty! Gaudi would be proud of you.

Oh yes, that popped into my mind, too. Very cool!
(I may make some models for my wife - she loves Barcelona and Gaudi especially)

Tell me, an object like this, do you use mirrored components? When would you use mirrored components and how do you deal with the mirror plane?
I am supposing these examples are simple subdivision and smooth, mostly without sculpting?

These are simple geometries and I didn't use the mirror plane funtion.

They are all without sculpting, just subdivisions from the included proxies.

..now that is amazing...
I'm always very surprised by the results you guys achieve in modeling organic shapes lately. Impressive. Great model! -
I would say that chair is not so simple.. but it's amazing how elegantly all that is worked out from a proxy that is simpler than you'd expect. I find that by only observing this thread, each time I try Artisan is better and more fun.
