      Hi All,

I'm new to the website but our practice has been using sketchup for quite a few years. We are now looking to create a set of sketchup drawing standards.

I just wondered if anyone had any good resources or a set of drawing standards already available to save us reinventing the wheel?

      Thanks,

      Dan.

My first question would be: Are you using Sketchup 7 Professional, with Layout? Layout is somewhat similar to Autocad Layout/Paperspace, for instance. You can assemble sheets, and so forth.
While I was replying, I viewed a couple of tutorials on youtube after googling "Sketchup Layout tutorial", just to be sure. I would suggest that you consider Sketchup8 Professional for the above reasons.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

We use sketchup 8 across our office and have 4 network licenses of sketchup 8 pro too.

We don't do drafting in it, but we are seeking to unify the way people use it by implementing standards similar to our office CAD standards and generate a standard template with correct layering etc. We currently use if for things like quick massing models, simple walkthroughs and conceptual work - however staff sometimes take this too far, so we are also looking to implement a technology review at the start of each of our projects, to decide if sketchup is valuable or if we should go straight to a visualization artist etc...

Our main goal is to get staff working to best practices and doing things such as tracing over imported cad drawings then stripping them out rather than using them in the application as part of the model, and to get them working in a standardised way with a view of creating less headaches for our visualisation artists who often have to take these models into 3D Studio Max Design and work on them to produce higher quality visuals.

We find our models often become too combursome and the use of cad files can cuase a model to crash sketchup so we are looking to mitigate these problems with standards and best practices.

We have sort of come up with a draft outline for thias document but I just wondered if anyone had done this before.

I apologize for misreading your avatar information, where I thought I saw Sketchup 7, when in fact that is Windows 7 and Sketchup 8. That being said, your further clarification will help to bring out the respondents you seek.
            My best regards, mitcorb.
