    Hello Good People,

    new to this site.
    need some help please.
im using sketchup 8 and would like to know
how to make a photograph of a pc case i have
taken from a source on the internet into a 3d
    model with correct dimensions etc.

I have attached an example of my current pc case
which i was lucky to find the model in the 3d warehouse.
I have attached the file so you can see what i am trying to
    achieve.

if any one can help me please that be great so i can crack
on and plan my next build. please try and make it as simple
as possible as im new to sketchup 8 and only know the basics.

thanks in advance to any one who can help. I appreciate it.
    cheers ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      Hi UnderDog and welcome!

Well, from the imge, it really looks a complex model but I am pretty sure it is made up of fairly simple "pieces" (components).

I am not sure where you get stuck. Best would be to describe your workflow (and post where you have been able to get so far) as a question like "how do I make this computer" is quite broad. You can just draw a rectangle and pull it up to a box and be ready with it or go into the finest details - we do not know what your ultimate goal is...

        Hi Underdog, hi folks.

See this SU file for ideas using native SU's tools.

        Computer case.skp
Notice that the case faces have no thickness. It is easy to add some to create a more realistic object.

After you master these native tools, you can try plugins to create real fancy stuff more easily than with only native tools.

        Just ideas.

Thanks guys for the relies so far,

Like I said I have the most basic of skills on sketch up,
Being able to use basic functions that's it.

I thought the image of the case was a picture that someone
took of it lol. Didn't realise they made it from scratch.
Yikes you really have scared me now guys.

Jean I'll give what you suggested a go.
What I've been trying to do is use photo match lol.
I thought I'd be able to convert the picture of the case into
A 3d model that way lol and that the result would have come out like my v2000
          case I've shown you.

What aim going to do is post the picture of the new case that I would like
to try to make a model of, only trouble is I'm working off my iPad and i can't upload images
From here onto site. So I will update picture on here and add it to my post later.

Oh my god lol thought it was going to be simple.
Should have known nothing in my life is simole lol.
But if you guys can be kind enough to help me achieve
My goal I would be ever so grateful.

I will attach the image to this post soon as kiddies get off my bloody pc ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thanks for the help so far guys, and if you can endure helping me thru the
Process of making my model from start to finish you'll be absolute stars in my eyes.
          Cheers!

            Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies Gaeius and Jean.

1st off to the admin, sorry for resubmitting
posts, had a problem with my ipad.

To let you know where I am at Gaeius.
Im at the level of total noob.
So much so to the point that I thought that
the model of my v2000 was done by taking a picutre
of it then using photo match to make the model LoL!
I kinda realise now of course that that is not the case.

So then I looked At Jeans file he gave me and looked at
the model of the panel of the case and then I realised that
the model could of course be made by using the simple tools
of draw line, circle, arch and then push and pull and move.
I have used these plus orbit etc when I downloaded the watercooling
components, the fans and pump, power supply, motherboard, and also when I
made the tubing in the model of myv2000 in my post.

So now you know exactly where im at I hope.
I will try by the weekend to have made a start
on my new danger den case, I have attached the
pic of the case for you to have a look at and to
have as a reference point so hopefully you can help
me when I get stuck and guide me through.

Its amazing when a penny drops as they
Thanks again guys my eyes are at least half open lol.

Ow yea Jean starting from template, which should I select
to start my model of the new case in. Also do I get rid of the
lady when you 1st open sketchup, I like to call her Leila Lol!
or she best left there. I have a feeling you say erase her but I
            thought Id ask anyway.

Cheers guys for the help so far and your future suggestions. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
