Joplin Missouri was the hardest hit in a string of tornadoes that hit the Midwestern United States yesterday.

Do we have any SUC members in that area?

A massive tornado that tore a six-mile path across southwestern Missouri killed at least 116 people as it smashed the city of Joplin, ripping into a hospital, crushing cars and leaving behind only splintered tree trunks where entire neighborhoods once stood.

I live about 20 minutes away where one touched down in Minneapolis yesterday. One dead and 10K people without power now.

I'm not making light of all this by the way.

Today we got the hail from hell, the shit was huge (golf ball size), My new Minivan (town and country) is in the body shop with some roof damage (I'm covered) but inconvenienced.

And we get to look forward to June, our official tornado month.

I remember the tornadoes that ripped through Fridley and did damage back in 86. The helicopter pilot for KARE TV got a lot of kudos for getting video of the tornadoes from the air. I knew the pilot, Max. He was good.

Just last friday as I was taking the scenic route home I drove into one of the ravage neighborhoods in St. Louis where the tornado just missed my house by about 5 blocks. You really have to see this stuff in person to really get a good sense of the awful destruction. They are still cleaning up even after a month of ongoing work. Sadly, we may be in for some rough times ahead as the peak of the tornado season approaches.

yeah... this is 50 miles from me. my Brother's n law are cops and they are down assisting in rescue efforts. it's craziness around here right now. but I'm sure you know all too well Boo.

right now as things sit it's 117 dead. 17 pulled out alive in the last two days. many still missing including children.
