Idea- Polygon Selection

When I use sketchup to build some complex model, I come up with an idea that if I have a selection tool like in autoCAD- polygon selection, maybe it will save some time. Yesterday I googled out Thomthom's plugin- vertex tools(
),it have the same selection method, but only for vertexes...
I imagine a small button, after one click, you can use polygon selection like in autoCAD, and exit the tool automatically. Maybe there will be two button, another is freehand selection??
I think this tool maybe is more popular when in top view, like in autoCAD.

If you have Vertex Tools then after selecting vertices and exiting vertex editing mode the related edges and faces will be selected.

I only saw the introduce...But the tool can't select groups and components...
Maybe this tool is easy to imagine but hard to make.

Er,I searched the google sketchup API, and maybe there's no such API to do this work? So it's no use to write such a plugin like this using Ruby.
I think it may be in the SelectionObserver class or camera class, and I don't find one... Dear Thomthom, Am I get the point?
