The free flickr account limits how many images you can upload (200 I think.)

Life's a reach, and then you gybe.

Or simply share a folder on Dropbox

        http://db.tt/1ztVLIf

It means everyone must install DropBox on their machine if they want to get full benefit. But if they have smartphones they can access the album anywhere.

If they don't install then they can just create an online account and view on the web.

Pilou, does Photobucket have shared albums? (I.e. can anyone upload there without having to share the same login details?).

And DP is not an album - just a file sharing device.

I think I know what Eric means but among all these, currently I find only Picasa to (somewhat) do all these things.

              Thanks for all the replies.

What I would like is to just set up a spot then email out to a group the username and password which will allow them to upload photos at will. For instance an extended family adding photos of a family reunion.

Well, you can still do that the easiest IMO in Picasa. Setting up a Google account is the easiest in the World (why else do you think gmail is the most popular spam domain?).

Finally there you can tag the faces before and after the reunion and all that fancy stuff. Ideal for such things extremely quickly.

You can quickly make a new gmail account and add your real account as "shared" so you do not need to log in with all different accounts (and can do this with "more advanced" Internet users in the family, too).

Just like we had the shared BaseCamp album, remember?

That does sound like the best option. I forgot about the shared option.
                  Thanks Gai.

Pilou, I (or Eric) did not mean "sharing" like you can send the link to anyone. He meant a way that anyone can joinan album (the author can share it as a collaborative album) and upload photos with his/her login account and such. From what you wrote, Photobucket is not the place.

I guess what Eric does want to avoid here is that all the family keeps sending the pics to him and he spends the whole day uploading them. πŸ˜’

You are really "Speedy Pilou" (even answering before reading)

That's why dropbox is the best. No fancy crap like Picasa offers just plain old images to open as you wish. No different than any other folder in your HDD.

May not have bells and whistles but does the job. I share all my provocative photos there πŸ‘

Well, DP can also be. But note that there will be grandma's also wishing to browse the album and not install sharing software on their lappy's.

I use photobucket all the time.

It has the ability to create group albums.

                              Overview: Group Albums

Group albums allow multiple people to contribute and share digital media from a single album. Public group albums can be viewed by anyone. Private group albums can only be viewed by people who know the group album URL and password. All contributors to a group album must first register and log into their own personal Photobucket account.

A group album is owned and maintained by one Photobucket account holder. The owner controls the name, status (public vs. private), vanity URL, and also has control over the content added to the group album. The group album owner, and all contributors, can invite others to the album via email.

Many of the features and functionality included with an individual Photobucket album are also available with a group album, with the exception of the Slideshow feature. Content from a group album may be saved to a viewer's personal Photobucket account.

Note: Group Albums receive Free account benefits (even if you have a Pro account). See Free Accounts for more information.
